O.J. Simpson dies at 76, family issues statement – Daily Star

OJ Simpson, aged 76, passed away from cancer. His family made the announcement on social media, stating that he succumbed to his battle with cancer on April 10th, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Despite being acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994, his reputation was severely impacted and he struggled thereafter. Following his acquittal, Simpson was found liable in a civil suit and was ordered to pay damages.

In 2007, he was charged with armed robbery and kidnapping, leading to a 33-year prison sentence. He was granted parole in 2017 and early release from parole in 2021. Simpson married Marguerite L. Whitley at 19 and had three children. After divorcing in 1979, he began dating Nicole Brown, whom he married in 1985.

The couple had two children and divorced in 1992. The infamous low-speed police pursuit involving Simpson and his friend Al Cowlings gained widespread media coverage and a shock not-guilty verdict. Simpson was a highly regarded footballer, winning the NFL’s MVP award in 1973 and holding the record for the single-season yards-per-game average. He spent time with the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers before retiring in 1979 to focus on his acting career.

His work included TV shows and movies, and he was also considered for the main role in The Terminator. Simpson’s life was marked by controversy and legal troubles, leading to a tarnished reputation despite his success in both football and acting.
