The world-leading promotion has announced the introduction of a new line of fingerless gloves aimed at reducing the number of eye pokes sustained during fights. These gloves have been in development for several years and are one ounce lighter than previous versions, also featuring a chip that logs the fights in which they are used. While they will not be used at the upcoming UFC 300 event in Las Vegas, they are set to debut at UFC 302 in New Jersey in June.
The new gloves are designed to feel lighter, provide a better fit for fighters’ hands, prevent injuries, and offer greater flexibility during fights. The promotion anticipates that these gloves will start to be used in competitions over the summer months. Regarding the effectiveness of the new gloves in reducing eye pokes, it is recognized that despite efforts to mitigate this issue, due to the nature of the MMA gloves, complete elimination of eye pokes may not be achievable.
