Bizarre relics from the 1950s have recently been discovered on Caerfai beach in Wales, prompting a warning from the Pembrokeshire Coast Rangers to locals to stay away from the area. The historical oddities, which were washed ashore in the 1950s, defused, and left on the beach, became buried in the sand. The mines were first unearthed in the 1980s and again in 2013 after a local resident reported them.
An investigation by Dyfed Archaeological Trust identified the mines as the Type 17 deep-water moored variety. In a separate incident, earlier this year, a World War 2 explosive was uncovered in a back garden, leading to the evacuation of hundreds of families and businesses over a three-day period. The bomb was then safely transported by the UK military to the ocean where it was blown up.
