Pink cocaine is a designer drug composed of various substances, such as ketamine and ecstasy, which are dyed to give it a fluorescent appearance. The drug’s chemical formula originated in Europe, but it was a Colombian drug trafficker, known as the “Pablo Escobar of amphetamines,” who began marketing it as “pink cocaine.”
This new trend has also earned it nicknames such as “the drug of the elite” or the “drug of models or queens.” According to a police source cited in the Majorca Daily Bulletin, pink cocaine is extremely potent, causing severe hypertension and posing the risk of heart failure due to its combination of ecstasy and amphetamines in powder form.
Consequently, individuals consuming it may be unaware of the dangerous substances they are ingesting. Typically available in brightly-colored powder or pill form, pink cocaine can be easily dissolved in liquids and fetches a higher price than regular cocaine, commanding around £30,000 per kilogram.
Berta de la Vega, coordinator of Energy Control, a Spanish drugs testing facility, noted that dealers purchase a gram of MDMA for about €40 (£34.50) and ketamine for prices ranging from €20 (£17.25) to €35 (£25.88), forming the basis for the drug’s synthesis. Furthermore, a tragic incident is mentioned where the parents of an individual claimed that their child’s drink had been spiked, allegedly by two strangers he had connected with on social media.
