Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, 56, announced his departure in January, prompting the search for a replacement. Xabi Alonso, Ruben Amorim, and Feyenoord manager Arne Slot have been linked to the role. Slot, 45, has emerged as a strong candidate and has fueled speculation by canceling a press conference in his home country.
Slot had a modest playing career in the Netherlands before transitioning to management. He took over as AZ Alkmaar’s coach in 2019 and subsequently joined Feyenoord in 2020. He led the team to the Europa Conference League final and secured the Eredivisie title and KNVB Cup.
His tactical style is similar to Klopp’s, focusing on wingers and pressing. Slot is viewed as a player-manager rather than a tactician like Marcelo Bielsa. Comparatively, Ruben Amorim’s release clause is valued at around £13m.
Liverpool will face the Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
