Chris Wilder’s team and their fans were dismayed after a social media post implied there might still be hope for them. The tweet suggested that Sheffield Utd’s relegation could be pending the outcomes of Everton and Nottingham Forest’s points-deduction appeals.
Both clubs are appealing their recent points deductions for breaching Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules. Everton’s ten-point penalty was reduced to six points, only to be deducted another two for a further breach.
In response, Sheffield Utd also launched an appeal. While the possibility exists for more points to be deducted from Everton and Forest, it is unlikely to change the Blades’ situation at the bottom of the table.
Despite the appeals process offering a slim chance for Sheffield United to temporarily stave off relegation, their position remains precarious. They are currently trailing Nottingham Forest by ten points and are set to face them in their next home match on May 4th.
The tweet has sparked mixed reactions within the Premier League community, yet the likelihood of Sheffield Utd making an escape from relegation remains slim.
