Meanwhile, Necaxa, an established club with a century-old history and a large fanbase, was valued at around $200m in 2021 following investment from Americans Al Tylis and Sam Porter. Necaxa competes in Mexico’s top tier and plays at the 23,000-seater Estadio Victoria in Aguascalientes. However, the club finished 17th last season and last won a league title in 1998.
The deal’s financial details and its impact on Wrexham remain unspecified and unclear. It’s possible that Reynolds and McElhenney might leverage their celebrity status and media knowledge to expand Wrexham’s fan base, potentially through exhibition matches and player loan transfers. It is noteworthy that Wrexham will play in England’s third tier next season, while the Liga MX temporarily scrapped relegation in 2020, providing the new owners with more time to implement changes without the threat of relegation.
