A rampaging Hainault swordsman allegedly killed a 14-year-old schoolboy in a quiet London suburb. The incident occurred on April 30 in the north-east of the capital, when a 36-year-old man crashed a Transit van and proceeded to brandish a three-foot-long sword, attacking people in the area.
The attack was halted when a policewoman tasered the alleged killer, and he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to the hospital. Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with one woman recounting how the man tried to attack the police before being sprayed and fleeing.
Another witness reported that the man asked a female resident to tell someone his location before pulling a sword from the back of his trousers. Video footage shows the man climbing on top of a building, jumping over fences, and eventually being stopped around 7:14 am, 22 minutes after the initial emergency call.
