The Racecourse Ground is currently undergoing redevelopment, and a new Kop Stand is being constructed to increase the Red Dragons’ home capacity to 16,000 seats. The club aims to eventually have one of the largest stadiums in the UK, capable of welcoming more fans than Stamford Bridge and Villa Park. When asked about the 16,000-seat capacity as the club’s “sweet spot,” McElhenney responded. As the club progresses to higher tiers, the task of attracting more fans will become more challenging.
To strengthen boss Phil Parkinson’s options, another busy transfer window is expected in the coming summer. The stadium redevelopment has encountered difficulties, leading to delays in the construction of the Kop stand. Consequently, a temporary stand was introduced in December, allowing 12,562 fans to attend the season-concluding 2-1 win over Stockport County. The completion of the redevelopment is expected to take approximately a year.
