A new competition called the EPG Cup has been founded by a group of top-level former professionals. This tournament, essentially an Over-35 World Cup, features historic nations battling it out in seven 11-a-side matches spanning one week. Eligible players aged over 35 or those with 100 top-flight appearances are set to compete, creating a buzz among football fans.
Some all-time greats are expected to feature, with potential lineups including the likes of Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry, Kaka, and other legends. England’s team is anticipated to include Steve McManaman, Michael Owen, Ashley Cole, and Rio Ferdinand, while Brazil could form a formidable outfit with Rivaldo, Cafu, Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos, and Kaka. Additionally, players such as Mesut Ozil, Fabio Cannavaro, Francesco Totti, Carles Puyol, David Villa, Diego Forlan, and Hernan Crespo are also set to participate.
The matches will have some variations from traditional play, including rolling substitutions and a match duration of 70 minutes instead of the usual 90. The tournament promises to bring excitement and nostalgia, as football fans look forward to seeing these legends take to the field once again.
