The incident happened in the 33rd minute of Sevilla’s 2-1 win away at Rayo Vallecano on Monday night. As Ocampos prepared to take a throw in, a young fan appeared to poke the 29-year-old’s bum, who turned round to speak to the supporter. A temporary halt was brought to the game as Rayo players attempted to calm the crowd before the match resumed, with supporters sat nearby seen laughing at the incident. But Ocampos and the away side didn’t see the funny side at all, as both demanded action to be taken.
“We hope that the appropriate measures outlined in the regulations will be taken to prevent such behaviour from happening again on a football field, and we have expressed this to LaLiga directly. These gestures and behaviours should not be allowed in our competition if we aspire to be the best league in the world. *Should the supporter be banned? I hope La Liga takes it as seriously as it takes racism and these things.
I kept my calm because I have two daughters. I hope this doesn’t happen to them in the future. I hope that the action that has to be taken is taken, and I hope that a fool like this does not stain a set of fans who otherwise behaved very well.”
Fans on social media were also left unimpressed at the incident. One wrote: “That’s a prison sentence.”
While another said: “Two idiots who I imagine will be banned from the field.” Sevilla picked up three points thanks to a Youssef En-Nesyri brace either side of Isi Palazon’s first-half equaliser. Quique Sanchez Flores’ side moved three points clear of the bottom three with just their fourth win in 23 league games, as Ocampos played the entire 90 minutes.
