Howard Webb, chief of referees, embarrassingly admits Forest should’ve received Everton penalty – Daily Star

After having three penalty appeals turned down in their 2-0 defeat at Goodison, Forest issued an extraordinary statement on social media. They claimed that they had “warned” PGMOL before the match that VAR Stuart Attwell “was a Luton fan”.

Forest then called on Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) to change its rules on officials’ allegiances to account for “contextual rivalries in the league table”, not just local rivalries. Meanwhile, Webb, the head of refs at PGMOL, is expected to admit one of the three penalty appeals should have been given.

£22 a monthSky Webb will make the admission on the ‘Match Officials Mic’d Up’ show, which will air tonight (Tuesday). Forest’s initial statement, released just five minutes after the final whistle at Goodison, read: “Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept.

Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options.”

The club’s refereeing advisor, Mark Clattenburg, wrote in his Daily Mail column: “One of these errors would have been bad enough.”
