The judges at the exclusive Britain’s Got Talent press launch disclosed that they had added an unexpected surprise to the show – in previous series, only five golden buzzers were awarded by judges and Ant & Dec, securing an act’s place in the final. However, it was revealed that there might be eight or nine golden buzzers in the upcoming series. Amanda Holden teased, “That’s just the tip of the iceberg!
There’s so much more to come.” Britain’s Got Talent has evolved significantly since its inception 17 years ago. Simon Cowell reflected on the show’s journey, acknowledging its humble beginnings.
He candidly shared the challenges they faced, including the show almost not happening, as well as the rollercoaster ride of its success. Simon recounted how they initially sold the show to America, where it became a hit, and later, how ITV bought it. However, just three days before they were scheduled to begin filming, the network cancelled the show.
Despite the initial setbacks, they persisted and moved forward. Simon recalled the tense 24 hours leading up to their last chance in Birmingham, recalling his thoughts, “We’ve got 24 hours; if it doesn’t work in the first day we’re toast.” His initial aspirations for the show were modest, as he revealed, “I always thought if we can get three or four years out of this it will be amazing, then you reach 10 years and you go, ‘that’s a milestone.'”
