Nicolas, 32, received a Mercedes C63 from his older sibling Lewis Hamilton as a gift, but ended up selling the car to pay off his debts. In his book ‘Now That I Have Your Attention,’ Nicolas shared about his struggle with addiction, which led to depression and thoughts of suicide. He expressed regret and shame for using the gift from his brother to pay his tax bill, feeling as if he had essentially taken money from his brother. This led to a wake-up call for him, as he felt stuck in a cycle of destructive behavior and was unable to move forward.
Nicolas admitted that he was hesitant to seek help, but ultimately reached out to the Samaritans helpline and managed to overcome his addiction. He did not feel comfortable asking for help from Hamilton or other family members, and instead sought support independently. Both Nicolas and Lewis Hamilton share a passion for motorsport, with Nicolas being a fan and participant in the British Touring Car Championship. Despite facing challenges due to his cerebral palsy, he achieved a career-best result of sixth place at Donnington Park in the previous year.
