After the game, Sanchez claimed that Messi had angrily approached him, stating, “I’m here to show my face and take charge.” The altercation began when Monterrey head coach expressed concern about potential preferential treatment for Miami due to Messi’s celebrity status.
This led to tension between the two teams, with Miami players approaching the match officials in the tunnel, prompting a response from Monterrey players and staff. Messi, who missed the match due to injury, made a return in Miami’s subsequent game against Colorado Rapids, scoring a goal.
With a total of six goals in six games this season, Messi has now scored 17 goals in 20 matches for Miami.
