Man Utd and other Premier League clubs oppose new radical ‘anchoring’ spending caps – Daily Star

The ‘anchoring’ system has been proposed as a fresh alternative to the current model as English top-tier clubs prepare to vote on it next Monday. This new concept would restrict teams on how much they can spend on player expenses based on calculations involving the lowest earners from the Premier League’s broadcast and commercial deals. There is a growing number of clubs opposing the current proposals, and it’s been suggested that this figure could increase fivefold due to push-back from some clubs. In addition to wage expenses, clubs also have to consider amortised transfer fees and agents’ fees in the ‘squad cost’.

Ratcliffe, who is approaching his first summer in charge at Old Trafford, seeks as much freedom as possible to reshape the squad to his liking. One of the proposed changes is the introduction of a ‘luxury tax’ that could allow wealthier clubs to incur fines instead of points deductions, although it is believed that points deductions would still be used as a punishment to discourage overspending. Clubs are set to discuss the matter on Thursday before casting their votes on Monday, April 29th.
