The recent appointment of Jason Wilcox as the football director at Manchester United comes shortly after the departure of John Murtough from the same role. Wilcox previously held the position of director of football at Southampton and was placed on gardening leave when he expressed his desire to move to Old Trafford.
United is understood to have paid around £1m to secure his services, but negotiations with Newcastle are ongoing as they are seeking £20m in compensation. It is anticipated that Wilcox’s arrival could be beneficial for Jadon Sancho, who had been sidelined by manager Erik ten Hag before returning to Borussia Dortmund on loan.
Wilcox had previously worked with Sancho during his time at City and is reported to be a fan of the winger. United is also planning for the future, as they believe it may take until the autumn for Ashworth to join the new senior team being assembled by investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
A United spokesman stated that Wilcox will collaborate with all technical areas of the football department to strive for the highest standards of performance.
