The Lucinda-Russell-trained 10-year-old and several Irish horses led the market for the Grand National race. The 34-strong field dwindled as several horses were pulled up or fell during the race.
I Am Maximus, trained by Willie Mullins, emerged victorious with a seven-and-a-half lengths margin. Skelton’s success in the William Hill Handicap Hurdle was followed by further wins in other races.
Gordon Elliott also achieved notable successes in the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle. Tom Lacey’s horse Cruz Control defied odds to secure a top prize in the Freebooter Handicap Chase.
The JRL Group Liverpool Hurdle saw 8/1 Strong Leader emerge victorious.
