In the municipality of Pitiquito, Sonora, during the first operation, authorities detained six people riding in three narco tanks. Among the six individuals, four were minors. They were found in possession of a machine gun, other firearms typically issued to police, helmets, and tactical vests. Subsequently, a second operation in the town of Sáric uncovered two more modified armored vehicles along with additional firearms, including 58 magazines and 2,641 cartridges.
The specific drug cartel affiliation of the detained individuals remains unclear. Authorities have released images of the narco tanks and the weapons seized. It was noted that drug cartels convert stolen large trucks, often from the US or Mexico, into narco tanks, with popular choices including Chevrolet Silverados and Ford F-150s. Despite their intimidating appearance, these narco tanks are not considered highly effective in drug cartel warfare, as per the Mexican military, due to their limited maneuverability in urban areas and on soft or sandy ground caused by their heavy metal plating.
