Pubs in the UK to have extended opening hours during Euro 2024 to support struggling businesses.

Pubs in the UK to have extended opening hours during Euro 2024 to support struggling businesses.

The Tory politician hinted on Tuesday (April 30) that he would explore allowing pubs to extend their opening hours beyond normal closing time. This announcement comes as England enters the Germany tournament as one of the top contenders to end a 58-year winning drought. If the proposal goes ahead, pubs might be permitted to remain open until 1am if any of the home nations progress to the semi-finals or further. As Germany, the host country, is one hour ahead of the UK, football fans will have the opportunity to enjoy drinks without the risk of being asked to leave before matches go into extra time or penalties.

Expressing support for the potential extension, it was mentioned, “The Government’s consultation on allowing pubs to extend their opening hours for the semi-final and final of the upcoming Euros has garnered overwhelming backing, and we eagerly await the implementation of the necessary regulations by the Government as soon as possible.” With high hopes for an exciting summer of sports, it was added, “This move is eagerly anticipated by the beer and pub sector, potentially leading to a prosperous season. Let’s hope that pub customers can relish the extended hours, particularly if England and Scotland reach the semi-finals and even face off in the final.” The Three Lions will be participating in the tournament following their second-place finish to Italy in the last Euro 2020, causing widespread disappointment.

Scotland is also expected to take part in Euro 2024, with key players John McGinn and Andy Robertson currently fit and ready to compete.
