Victor Osimhen’s 55th minute equaliser was followed by Matteo Politano scoring in the 57th, and then Piotr Zielinski’s screamer four minutes later. But out of all the incredible goals on display at the Stadio Brianteo, Politano’s was the pick of the bunch. He had time to line up the shot, before thundering a volley into the top right hand corner of the net. The sublime skill and sheer power on display made the strike unsavable.
And even his team-mate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was left head in hands in disbelief. “Contender for goal of the year in Serie A. Matteo Politano with an incredible volley,” one X user wrote alongside a clip of the goal. Another fan tweeted: “The cleanest of hits,” while a third agreed: “So clean.” A fourth added: “The technique & guide on it. God,” and a fifth wrote: “That is sensational.”
Osimhen’s diving header to open the scoring for Napoli was extraordinary in its own right, having jumped completely over the opposition defender to meet the ball.
Zielinski’s effort was hit from a similar range to Politano’s, arrowing into the opposite corner and leaving the goalkeeper helpless.
