The Prince and Princess of Wales recently had to complete paperwork after the birth of their youngest son, Louis, who is celebrating his sixth birthday. Louis was born at St Mary’s Hospital in London, weighing 8lb 7oz. Interestingly, the paperwork revealed that William and Kate’s occupations were listed as ‘Prince’ and ‘Princess of the United Kingdom’.
In the UK, parents have 42 days to register a child’s birth, and the couple registered Louis’s arrival just eight days after he was born. This quick registration was due to changes in the law, as the mother’s occupation was only added to birth certificates in 1984. After Louis’s birth, Kensington Palace released a statement announcing his name as Louis Arthur Charles, and he will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.
Louis’s first name pays homage to his great-grand-uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten, who was a mentor to King Charles and died in 1979. Additionally, Louis is named after his grandfather, King Louis, and Arthur is a regal name with historic significance, dating back centuries. When Prince William and Princess Kate started their family, a 100-year-old rule was changed by the late Queen to ensure that all their children would receive their HRH titles.
