The event at Aintree is one of the most famous horse races on the planet, attracting roughly 150,000 spectators every year. But as highly-anticipated as the Grand National may be, the British public reckons two other sporting events are a little more must-watch.
Completing the top five is another day at the races – this time at Cheltenham for the Gold Cup, and tied for fifth is nabbing a seat at Silverstone to watch the British Grand Prix. Respondents were also asked about the most iconic Grand National win of all time.
Red Rum’s record-setting third victory in 1978 secured top spot. Rachael Blackmore’s win onboard Minella Times in 2021, which made her the first woman ever to win at Aintree, came second.
In recent months, Betfair and Rachael Blackmore have extended their support to both the Injured Jockeys Fund and Irish Injured Jockeys through the Serial Winners Fund, an innovative charity initiative. Betfair has committed to donating £5,000 every time Blackmore rides a winner up to the end of Grand National day – amounting to a total of £205,000 so far.
Blackmore, a Betfair ambassador, expressed her pride in being a part of this initiative and highlighted the substantial donation’s support for the vital work carried out by the organizations. Blackmore also expressed her hope to add to the Serial Winners Fund at Aintree and emphasized the importance of the initiative in supporting jockeys in all areas of their lives.
