Thousands of Hammers fans have traveled to Germany for their team’s Europa League quarter-final first leg against Bayer Leverkusen, led by Xabi Alonso. Many fans have congregated in the nearby city of Cologne. However, an incident involving a 68-year-old fan occurred close to the city’s famous cathedral and main railway station. The incident took place on Wednesday night, and the driver of a road sweeper sustained minor injuries, as per local police.
It is believed that the Hammers fan may have fallen under the vehicle’s brushes, resulting in head injuries. Following the collision, the 29-year-old driver steered the sweeper into a traffic light pole, also sustaining minor injuries. On Wednesday, many fans gathered in the Cologne Cathedral area and were reportedly in good spirits, with no other issues being reported.
