Employees at a bank branch became suspicious of a woman named Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes, who claimed to be the niece of a man found dead in the branch. They alerted the authorities after confronting her about the man’s condition.
Police chief Fábio Luiz explained that the woman said the man had already entered the bank in a deceased state. The woman told officers at the police station that she often looked after the man.
A video taken by bank attendants showed her constantly adjusting the man’s head and speaking to him, despite him not responding. She insisted that the man’s appearance was normal and that he did not speak.
The police are investigating whether others were involved in the alleged crimes and are seeking security footage. The elderly man’s body was taken to the Legal Medical Institute for examination.
Authorities emphasized the need to continue the investigation to identify other family members and determine the man’s state at the time any transactions may have been made. They are also seeking to establish the date of any loan transactions.
