Thomas Tuchel’s men rallied in the second half, with Leroy Sane scoring his first goal since October with a rapid strike that left Andriy Lunin no chance to save it. Just four minutes later, Jamal Musiala was tripped inside the box and Bayern were awarded a penalty. Harry Kane stepped up to take it and made no mistake.
Moments before Kane took the penalty, Jude Bellingham approached him to have a word. Bellingham’s last-second words did little to worry Kane as he dispatched the penalty with confidence to give his side the lead. In typical Madrid fashion, despite not being at their best, they managed to make themselves a constant threat and won a penalty of their own after Rodrygo was fouled by Kim Min-jae.
The Champions League remains Kane’s last opportunity to earn silverware in his debut season with Bayern Munich. Despite a glorious individual season from the Englishman, things have not gone to plan for Bayern as a team. Xabi Alonso’s men also remain unbeaten in all competitions after another late comeback to draw at the weekend.
