Arsenal’s Fifth-Choice Striker Recounts Career Setback – Daily Star

Francis Jeffers was once poised for success, likened to Wayne Rooney in his prime. However, after joining a new club, he only secured a minor role as his scoring ability diminished, leading to a loss of his esteemed reputation as a goal-scoring machine.

Regretting his move, Jeffers acknowledged that playing second fiddle to Arsenal legends like Henry and Bergkamp had a significant impact on his career. Reflecting on his career, Jeffers admitted that he lacked the prowess to displace renowned players like Henry, Bergkamp, Wiltord, and Kanu at Arsenal.

He found it challenging to maintain focus and motivation while being consistently benched, which ultimately affected his performance. Subsequent stints at Charlton, Rangers, and Blackburn proved disappointing, leading to a decline in his career.

Jeffers ultimately retired in 2013 after a brief spell at Accrington Stanley, having scored only 21 goals in the decade following his departure from Arsenal.
