Earlier today, a UK airport was shut down after a suspicious package was discovered on an Aer Lingus flight EAG47S bound for Belfast from Birmingham. The plane was forced to return to Birmingham Airport, causing it to be officially closed “until further notice.”
The airport management has been contacted for a comment by the Daily Star. According to experts at SPD Travels, Birmingham Airport was closed to aircraft movements due to a suspicious device found on the Aer Lingus flight.
Emergency service vehicles were seen at the airport, but the plane itself was not visible. The airport spokesperson stated that operations were temporarily suspended due to a security incident, and that the aircraft had landed safely with all passengers and crew disembarked.
Travelers were advised to proceed to the airport and check in as usual. The airport later confirmed that normal operations were resumed at 6pm, without providing further details.
The Aer Lingus flight, which typically uses an ATR 82-600 aircraft that seats around 70-80 passengers and crew, was observed to have turned back near Market Drayton, close to Stoke-on-Trent. Passengers were transported back to the terminal by buses from a secure part of the runway, while emergency services managed the situation.
On-site, bomb squad vehicles and at least four police cars were seen.
