Confirmation of Lisandro Martinez’s injury as Man Utd defender set to miss important matches – Daily Star

The defender saw his right knee buckle under the weight of a challenge from Vladimir Coufal. Martinez tried to continue and ran the risk of making the problem worse, before limping off a few minutes later. The Argentine centre back has undergone scans, with reports in his homeland confirming he has damaged the collateral ligament in the knee and not his cruciate.

A statement read: “Lisandro Martinez has sustained an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for at least 8 weeks. “The Argentine defender left the field in the 71st minute of our 3-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday. We all wish Licha a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch later in the season.”

What do you think of Lisandro Martinez spending more time on the sideline? Martinez was making just his fourth start since returning from a four month lay-off following a foot operation. He has made just 10 appearances since August – and is now poised to go through his second long spell of rehabilitation this season.

United will rally round Martinez and offer him all the physical and mental support he needs in his bid to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.
