DVLA warns drivers not to forget major rule change implemented two weeks ago – Daily Star

The Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency is advising UK motorists who plan to drive abroad to acquaint themselves with new regulations following a significant change in permit law at the beginning of April. As a result, drivers are now able to acquire necessary documents at PayPoint stores. The DVLA, in a message on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, informed, “Travelling abroad this summer and planning to drive?” The agency emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant about the requirements and ensuring full compliance before traveling.

Although many countries do not require an International Driving Permit (IDP), there are more than 140 countries where an IDP is either recommended or mandatory for driving. These include popular holiday destinations such as Turkey, Mexico, Canada, and Australia. Motorists can verify whether they need an IDP for their destination country by visiting the government website. The PayPoint website provides guidance to drivers, stating, “IDPs support a British or Northern Irish licence in countries where photographic proof of ID is needed, or where your licence alone may not be enough.”

Additionally, it explains that there are three types of IDPs, and the appropriate one depends on the country or countries where one intends to drive.
