Eddie the Eagle makes £700,000 from Olympics fame but now charges for postage – Daily Star

Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards, now 59, transitioned from earning £7,000 per year as a plasterer to achieving significant paydays after gaining fame for his skiing achievements 35 years ago. Despite the decline in large earnings, Edwards remains in demand, partially due to the 2016 film “Eddie the Eagle,” featuring Taron Egerton, Hugh Jackman, and Christopher Walken. He reminisced about earning a substantial amount of £65,000 in a single day back in 1988, which was a stark contrast to his previous job. However, after deductions for various fees and taxes, his net earnings were modest, approximately £36.

Following a legal dispute with his trustees, Edwards has experienced a resurgence in popularity after the release of the film, and now frequently gives speeches and attends after-dinner events. He still receives fan mail but now requires payment for postage due to its high cost. Despite no longer receiving unusual items like marriage proposals, he remains active in skiing, participating in National Snow Week events and enjoying his time on the slopes. “I’m a skier and an ex-ski jumper, so I’ve always stayed within the industry,” he expressed, emphasizing his continued passion for skiing from an early age.
