Fury’s camp announced on Friday evening that the WBC champion’s undisputed heavyweight title bout with Usyk on February 17 was off. Now footage has emerged online of the incident which is claimed to have sparked the 35-year-old’s injury and cancelled the long-awaited Saudi Arabia clash. The clip, posted by iFL TV, shows grainy footage of Fury sparring but having to stop after being struck in the face.
Yet some fans were not convinced by the footage, as one X user pointed out: “That doesn’t look like he got cut up at all. The ‘cut’ on the photo looks like he got involved in a Bar fight,” while another questioned: “How do you get a cut like that, when wearing protection?”
Another fan fumed: “Funny the news breaks, then this video appears. I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed.
“I can only apologise to everyone affected including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners, and fans as well as our hosts and my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
