The football club is currently in sixth place in the Eredivisie, having won only 12 out of 29 league matches. This puts them on track for their worst finish since 1965.

Their recent 6-0 loss to Feyenoord was the club’s joint-third biggest defeat in history. Manager Maurice Steijn was sacked in October after a string of four defeats in five matches.

Van ‘t Schip was appointed as the caretaker boss while the club searched for a permanent replacement for Steijn. There is speculation about the future of manager Graham Potter after his underwhelming performance at the club.

Prior to this, Potter had successful stints at Brighton, Swansea, and Ostersund in Sweden. Despite the setback, he remains a highly regarded coach with a strong reputation.
