Jeff Stelling’s True Name Revealed as Sky Sports Icon Receives MBE – Daily Star

Stelling, 69, received the award as part of the New Year’s Honours list over the winter. However, fans might not have realized he was being honoured as he was listed under his birth name, Robert. Stelling was born Robert Jeffery Stelling, but in his move into the media, he decided to go by his middle name. He picked up his MBE on Wednesday (May 1) and beamed with pride.

In addition to earning recognition for his contributions to sports, Stelling has also been acknowledged for his charity work. Last September, Stelling walked from Wembley to Wycombe’s Adams Park stadium in memory of Bill Turnbull, an iconic BBC broadcaster and Wycombe Wanderers supporter who passed away from Prostate Cancer in August at the age of 66. Stelling shared his thoughts on the difficulty of the walk, stating, “I’d run marathons and I thought it couldn’t be as hard as that but it is, if not harder, mainly because of the wear and tear from being on your feet for so long. But you’re walking in a group and everybody has a reason for walking, living with someone or has known someone who has had prostate cancer.

There’s a unique camaraderie and it isn’t all doom and gloom, it’s sort of joyous.” As per our community guidelines, we offer competitions, special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
