John Parrott expresses concerns about the future of the Crucible and acknowledges the influence of financial incentives on player decisions.

The future of the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible in the Steel City is uncertain due to the venue’s limited 980-seat capacity. Over the years, potential new host countries such as China, Qatar, and now Saudi Arabia have been considered, which has sparked concerns about the event’s future location. The interviews featured in the coverage include current players, legends of the game, pundits, TV presenters, World Snooker Tour management, and other behind-the-scenes personalities, making it a valuable addition to this year’s World Championship. Saudi Arabia will also host the sport’s ‘fourth major’ in 2024, which is open to all 128 tour card holders and offers a £2million prize pot.

This development has left former snooker player Parrott worried about the future of the Crucible as a host venue. Parrott expressed his concerns by stating, “You can never say never. If a prize pot came up that was just so lucrative and the players themselves voted for it, that’s where you’ll be going.” While expressing his hopes for the Championship to remain at the Crucible during his tenure with the BBC, he acknowledged the unpredictability of the game and its potential impacts on the event’s future location.

With the World Snooker Championship set to begin on Saturday morning, live coverage will be available on the BBC.
