Schoolgirl’s Eerie 1969 Essay on the Future Makes Remarkably Accurate Prediction – Daily Star

The unnamed 11-year-old made uncannily accurate predictions about video-calling, now an integral part of personal and professional life in the pandemic era. In a slightly imperfectly spelled piece of writing, she describes a conversation where a person says they are going to call a friend on the telephone, and she responds by suggesting to tidy up.

She explains her prediction of the future as she sees it in 1969, describing a telephone as a square box with a receiver, and then remarks on the current ability to see the person you’re talking to on a screen. She recalls her disbelief when her husband showed her the technology, indicating that her predictions were not too far off, albeit with the innocent expectation that it would occur within 10 years.

Further, she expresses disappointment at the reality of mealtimes, stating that all they have to eat is a piece of chewing gum, which she defends as sufficient food. Her writing was graded by a teacher who made some corrections in red pen and pronounced it as “Good.”
