Sven-Goran Eriksson overcome with emotion as former club’s fans sing moving song – Daily Star

Sven-Goran Eriksson was deeply moved by the warm reception he received at his former club Gothenburg, where he returned on April 20. During his time at the club from January 1979 to June 1982, he led them to win the treble, including the UEFA Cup, making them the first Swedish side to achieve this victory. The home fans showed their appreciation by unveiling a tifo in his honor and serenading him with a song, which caused Eriksson to become emotional. He expressed his gratitude by applauding and thanking both sets of players.

Eriksson, accompanied by his girlfriend Yaniseth Alcides, watched the game from the stands as his old team settled for a 1-1 draw in their fourth league game of the season. Additionally, during the March international break, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by taking charge of his beloved Liverpool as their legends played against an Ajax alumni XI in a charity match. Eriksson had announced in January that he had been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and had stepped back from his role as a sporting director for Swedish side Karlstad.
