VAR Takes 120 Seconds to Spot Offside in West Ham vs Liverpool Sparks Fury

Liverpool took their faltering title challenge to East London. They thought they had been awarded a penalty early in the first half, but the offside decision then went to VAR.

Cody Gakpo appeared offside at first glance, which caused football fans to express their frustration on social media, as the decision took two minutes to make. There were comments about the delay, with one person questioning why it took two minutes to decide it was offside, while others criticized the process as a joke.

The anti-VAR discourse has reached an all-time high in recent weeks, with Sweden becoming the first country to refuse to use VAR following a fan revolt against its introduction. Fredrik Reinfeldt, the president of the Swedish FA, mentioned that more than half of the top 32 teams opposed VAR.

He stated that 18 elite clubs and two districts have voiced their opposition to introducing VAR, and the Swedish FA respects their decision. As a result, they did not bring forward any proposal about VAR to the previous board of representatives meeting, and they do not foresee it in the future, standing by respecting the democratic rules of the game.
