In the closing stages of the contest, Ronaldo was seen furiously wagging his finger at fans and appeared to mouth the words: “I am here, not Messi,” while tapping his chest, potentially in reference to how the Argentinian pulled out of Inter Miami’s clash with Al-Nassr late in the day. Later, as he walked down the tunnel, he was filmed grabbing an Al-Hilal scarf someone had thrown at him and seemed to rub it against his groin before tossing it away in anger. Supporters on social media branded the five-time Ballon d’Or winner “petulant” and “insecure,” with some even suggesting he seek professional advice for his antics.

Reacting, one X user wrote: “How insecure can you get? The guy is a joke.” A third wrote: “Really doesn’t take much to get him raging.

Makes you wonder if something’s wrong. Maybe he should see someone.” Al-Hilal are seven points clear of second-placed Al-Nassr at the top of the table, and are the only undefeated team left in the division.

Ronaldo’s side came up short in the league last season, finishing second behind Al-Ittihad, and it looks as if they’re going to suffer the same fate again this year with just 11 league games remaining. Last night’s match was Al-Nassr’s first since thrashing Inter Miami 6-0 last week. Fans were denied the chance to see Messi and Ronaldo share a pitch, possibly for the final time, after Ronaldo sat the game out with an injury.

He was, however, spotted grinning from the stands after his team raced into a 3-0 lead inside the first 12 minutes.
