England supporter’s act with a flare inspires solo show and merits BBC drama,” says Daily Star.

The story of a football fan shoving a flare up his bum has caught the attention of writer Alex Hill, who believes it would make for compelling television. He envisions it as a fast-paced drama that would appeal to a wide audience, drawing inspiration from Surrey roofer Charlie Perry’s moment of madness at the Euros in 2021. Hill, who stars in the one-man show “Why I Stuck A Flare Up My Arse For England,” feels that the story reflects the voice of a true football fan and sees potential for adapting it into a TV series, which he imagines calling ‘Flare’ and potentially as a six-part BBC drama.

He emphasizes football as a great backdrop for telling drama and sees the opportunity for more authentic football stories, calling it a complete dream. The inspiration for the show came from the infamous photo of the bum-flare incident at Wembley before the England-Italy final, which left a lasting impression on Hill due to the large crowd’s intense energy and excitement. The show is set to tour this autumn after the Euros, with the summer tournament in Germany.

The English football team, led by Gareth Southgate, is among the favorites to win the trophy. Although England came close to victory three years ago, they ultimately lost to Italy at Wembley on penalties in the final.
