Exploring the £40m abandoned Devil’s Palace: Nature reclaiming the space – Daily Star

Hamilton Palace, once a grand property in the British countryside, has fallen into disrepair in recent years. Its value was at one time estimated at £40 million, and it was reportedly the former abode of “gangsters.”

The property was never completed and has remained uninhabited to this day. Named after the capital of Bermuda, where the owner also has property, the palace has been at the center of various clashes and controversies.

The owner, van Hoogstraten, has had disputes with the Rambler’s Association regarding a footpath that ran across his estate. In 2002, van Hoogstraten was sentenced to 10 years for the manslaughter of a business rival, but this conviction was later overturned on appeal, and he was subsequently released.

In 2016, he made controversial comments about housing the homeless, stating that they are a burden on the public purse. Currently, the palace shows signs of neglect, with security doors still in place and overgrown weeds protruding from various areas.

It stands as a shadow of its former potential glory.
