Martin Tyler recently expressed gratitude towards the “amazing team” who assisted in saving his iconic voice after he underwent surgery to treat a condition. The 78-year-old mentioned overusing his voice and the climate in Qatar as factors contributing to his voice loss, causing him to fear the possibility of permanent damage.

The thought of being unable to socialize and losing his identity was particularly frightening for him. Following an exploratory operation at St George’s Hospital, doctors discovered Keratosis on Tyler’s larynx and subsequently performed a successful surgery to treat the condition.

Tyler praised the care he received at the hospital and specifically mentioned the support of Elissa, emphasizing the rough time he faced and the gratitude he holds for her and the medical team. Despite the challenges he faced, Tyler has managed to resume his commentary work, completing 40 commentaries since his treatment.

In light of World Voice Day, he shared his story to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining one’s voice and to express his newfound appreciation for not taking his voice for granted.
