Snooker star shares challenges with wife’s stroke and son’s surgery before Crucible tournament – Daily Star

Kyren Wilson, a 32-year-old snooker player who made it to the final at the Crucible previously, is entering the tournament as the 12th seed. He has been facing personal challenges as his wife has been dealing with epilepsy, which recently led to a stroke, leaving her unable to drive and putting more pressure on Kyren to take on additional responsibilities at home.

Their son Bailey also suffered a serious injury resulting in a fractured eye socket and nose, with surgery scheduled for the next month. There have been a lot of difficulties for the family and as a result, Wilson has had to prioritize his family over snooker this year.

His wife had to surrender her license due to her epilepsy, which was triggered by their son’s illness the previous year. In addition, their son’s recent accident at school has led to a series of hospital appointments, making it challenging for Wilson to focus on his snooker practice and travel for tournaments.

Despite these challenges, Wilson has managed to maintain his performance, achieving an impressive 61 centuries this season, which is second only to Judd Trump since last June. One of his highlights was achieving a memorable 147 at the World Championship last season.

Wilson acknowledged that the difficulties have impacted his season, especially in deciding frames, but he is still satisfied with his performance statistics. He emphasized the importance of scoring in the modern-day game and expressed confidence in his ability to perform when needed.

Wilson also mentioned his usual reluctance to talk about his personal challenges but acknowledged the need to have a little extra in the tank for the Crucible.
