A bloody brawl erupted among racegoers at Aintree on Friday, April 12, resulting in violent scenes during Ladies Day. Images captured haymakers being thrown and one racegoer seen with blood coming from his mouth.

Merseyside Police confirmed the arrest of three men on suspicion of affray after a reported “fight at the front of the Princess Royal Stand” around 2.25pm. The incident involved four or five men in an altercation, with one man receiving on-site treatment for minor injuries.

Police are now appealing for witnesses. Ahead of this year’s Grand National race festival, police announced additional security measures, given that around 150,000 attendees are expected across the three days.

The event has been staffed with armed and plainclothes officers, and bag searches and badge checks are in place. Only pre-booked vehicles are being allowed into Aintree as part of the security protocol.

Notably, last year’s race was delayed by animal rights protestors from Animal Rising, although the group has no plans to disrupt the race this year.
